Speaker: Alvin Mok, MD, Adult Reconstruction Orthopaedic Surgery
COURSE DESCRIPTION
Now that total joint replacement (TJR) surgery has transitioned to Vacaville the Care Pathway is being established and there is a need to highlight four areas of performance: safety, effectiveness, efficiency, and the patient and family experience of care. Also, highlighting care transitions, which are often a high risk time (when information can be lost or miscommunicated). Note: This Pathway does not address non-surgical care options.
A coordinated multidisciplinary peri-operative approach to total joint replacement surgery leads to more rapid recovery and improved patient satisfaction. We want to focus on patient safety. What are the dangers of performing elective total joint replacement on those that are not optimized for this surgery?
Select and refer candidates for TJR who are optimized for surgery resulting in shorter hospital stay, lower infection rates, and shorter recovery with early return to activity.
