NSA 11/8/19 Research Gr Rds CREST Network
Speaker: David Vinson, MD Emergency Medicine, Sacramento Medical Center, Co-Chair CREST Network
The purpose and the need for this CME activity was based on physicians at Napa Solano Area facilities need to learn more about the results of research conducted by the CREST network, a research group of emergency physicians from Emergency Departments throughout Northern California including TPMG and Division of Research who use their findings to refine care protocols and build technologies that optimize patient management.
The aim of this conference is to improve patient care based on research that is carried out at Napa Solano and in the Northern California region regarding RISTRA, “a risk stratification tool for conditions like pulmonary embolism, pediatric appendicitis, and acute coronary syndrome. For pulmonary embolisms for example, RISTRA helps determine which patients are low risk and can be treated without hospital admission, which has resulted in a 60% increase in the rate of home discharge, with no increase in morbidity or mortality.” Also, for improving knowledge about opportunities for research and funding options and telling experience with the process to help others who apply to get funding for research.
