Determining the Optimal Duration of Therapy: Review of Common Bacterial Infections

Kevin Tran, PharmD

A study in 2015 by Yogo, N. et al. found that 33% of antibiotics prescribed at discharge were inappropriate due to excessive duration.

The desired practice would have 90% of antibiotic duration of therapy prescribed at discharge to be in concurrence with current guidelines.

The gap is the need for Up to date knowledge of current guidelines for duration of therapy for common infections.
