Session Objectives:

At the conclusion of this event, participants will be able to: 

1. Identify DKA patients who can be managed on the non ICU floors.
2. Apply new protocol for the management of DKA patients with mild to moderateacidosis


Content:

Diabetic ketoacidosis DKA is a common condition which is entertained in theemergency room and hospital. Recently management of DKA has gone throughnumber of changes which require review of DKA management. Patients with DKAused to be managed on insulin drip in the ICU intensive care unit setting but recentstudies have proved safe management of these patients on the non ICU floors onsubcutaneous insulin administration. This event will clarify the patient populationswhere subcutaneous insulin administration is the correct treatment for themanagement of DKA. Our hospital also up dated recently the DKA managementalgorithm, speaker will also address the changes in the new protocol.
