Need for this presentation:

New consensus guidelines that many Primary Care and Adult Family medicine providers might not be aware of Recommendations not to order PFT's if patient has acute illness and Avoid prescribing inhaler steroids alone.

Recommendations:

1. COPD UPDATE
-    In order to conform diagnosis of COPD, PFT's , pulmonary function test, should be done
-    Recommended not to order PFT's if patient has acute illness 
-    Avoid prescribing inhales steroid alone
-    Recommended to start with SPIRIVA inhaler, if still having symptoms, use LAMA+ LABA, if necessary can add ADVAIR 
-    Important to provide timely immunizations with pneumonia vaccines, and TDAP
-    If patient admitted to hospital with COPD exacerbation, send referral to pulmonary clnic 

2.  LUNG CANCER SCREENIG  - IF PATIENT age 55-80, has 30 and above pack/year of smoking , and patient interested in lung cancer screening, than
Send referral to to LUNG CANCER SCREENING CLASS IN PULMONARY DEPARTMENT 

3.  3UPDATE ON CHRONIC COUGH 
-    CHRONIC cough considered when patient has cough for more than 3 weeks
-    Frequent causes of cough are : ASTHMA, POSTNASAL DRIP, GERD
-    For treatment use steroid nasal spray, like FLONASE, advise sinus rinse , treat GERD, trial of ALBUTEROL INHALER
-    Order CHEST XR
-    Refer to pulmonary clinic if no improvement
