This is a weekly meeting for POD Foot/Ankle Radiology Rounds. Dr. Klaus Kernbach is the planner.

Our most challenging cases of lower extremity trauma, infection or reconstruction were presented amongst the podiatry staff, residents and visiting student doctors.  We collectively discussed the optimal treatment strategies [both surgical and nonsurgical] to best manage our most complex cases.  It appears that the rate of revision surgery was reduced with this methodology. Also, surveys were completed by the attendees that demonstrated an increase in knowledge related to the weekly meeting.

There were no specific barriers that restricted successful change. At times, complex cases were so emergent that there was inadequate opportunity to share the case amongst the group at this RSS in advance of the emergent [or urgent] surgery. Napa Solano is a large geographic region. We WebEx the Radiology Rounds to help disseminate the content more easily for attendees.

Current Situation:

Vacaville Medical Center is now a level 2 trauma center and this has resulted in significantly more lower extremity trauma related to MVA (motor vehicle accident) or falls. As such, complex lower extremity trauma surgery and reconstruction is more prevalent amongst our team with this increased volume.

Desired Practice:

We desire optimal patient outcomes after complex lower extremity trauma or reconstruction with an earlier return to work/activity.
