TARGET AUDIENCE:

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES:

As a result of this CME activity, participants should be better able to:

•List the differential diagnosis of neutropenia
•Discuss how the differential may differ for infants and children.
•Review familial causes for neutropenia and bone marrow failure syndromes
•Identify red flags concerning for a serious cause for neutropenia vs benign neutropenia of childhood. 
•Identify autoimmune neutropenia.
•Deliniate  recommended intervals for rechecking an abnormal lab in an otherwise healthy child
•(ie when neutropenia is incidentally noted as part of screening for anemia, or when viral suppression is suspected)   
•Review different norms and recommendations for following neutropenia depending on the child’s ethnic background 
•Review the approach to the child with neutropenia and fever.
SERIES OBJECTIVES:

1) Associate current literature, standards, therapies, and treatments to the management and care of in-hospital and critical pediatric patients.
2) Utilize best practices identified in conference discussions in caring for pediatric inpatients.
3) Integrate information on appropriate diagnostic measures in the management of pediatric patients.
